Welcome to the IOGKF-USA

The International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) is one of the finest, traditional karate organizations in the world today. Under the leadership of our master, Sensei Morio Higaonna, 10th dan, the IOGKF is committed to preserving the intangible cultural treasure of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do, which has been passed down to us in its original form from one generation to the next. Since its establishment in 1979, the IOGKF has attracted culturally diverse martial arts practitioners from around the world, who have joined the organization after recognizing the authenticity and excellence of the IOGKF and its direct karate lineage tracing back to Bushi Chojun Miyagi, the founder of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do. Our members actively support our mission, objectives, and activities. The IOGKF sponsors interactive website forums, weekend seminars, and international martial arts events for its members to stay informed with news updates, improve their ongoing knowledge and skills, and develop life-long friendships. The IOGKF now has members in over 50 affiliated countries worldwide and is the largest Okinawan karate organization in the world. This website represents the membership of IOGKF-USA.

We believe that Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do training benefits all practitioners, regardless of their nationality, race, age, or gender. We have members as young as three years old up to those over 80 years of age. The IOGKF has a worldwide network of leadership groups and karate schools in different countries with highly-qualified chief instructors and dojo instructors to meet the needs of students and families. Training at their own pace, each IOGKF member will improve their mind (mental health, education, and language); body (self defense skills, physical fitness, flexibility, and endurance); and spirit (character, positive attitude, and contributions to society). It is our goal to improve the "quality of life" for all of our IOGKF members to help make a positive impact on the world. The IOGKF welcomes all potential new members to join our international karate family!

2016 East Coast Instructor’s Gasshuku @ Bushinkan Dojo
Nov 4 @ 5:00 pm – Nov 6 @ 8:00 pm

Instructor Gasshuku Details

Our main instructor will be Gene Villa Sensei, our USA Chief Instructor. Villa Sensei has recently returned from Okinawa, and will be teaching the most up-to-date information as Higaonna Sensei and the other seniors were presenting it. De Wet Sensei will be supplementing his teaching during a portion of each session. You should be aware that to make this Gasshuku affordable to you and given its importance, both Villa Sensei and De Wet Sensei have waived their teaching fees for this Gasshuku. This will save each participant half the original Gasshuku price!
This Gasshuku will be following a different format, and is only open to Instructors and their assistants, brown belt and up. There is a limit of 16 participants, so the instruction will be focused and detailed. Each person will receive personal attention from Villa Sensei and De Wet Sensei over the course of this 17 training-hour Gasshuku. This is the ideal format for those wishing to take grading, and preference will be given to grading candidates. Available slots will be updated as the fees are received. Payment reserves your place at this exclusive event.

The Gasshuku will begin promptly at 5pm on Friday, and conclude at 5pm on Sunday. Along with the physical training, there will be two working lunchtime meetings regarding both regional and national business. Attending all sessions is necessary for all members who wish to receive credit for attendance. Similarly, any candidates for grading must attend the entire event to be considered for passing.

In the interests of a speedy meeting, please submit any agenda items ASAP. Additionally, all t-shirt sizes and any reasonable special dietary needs need to be submitted with your form. De Wet Sensei will contact each person who registers individually. You will need to bring your own gear for Kumite, and plenty of liquids and a towel are recommended.
